Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapy technique that draws from hypnosis or hypnotic suggestion. Unlike most counseling approaches, hypnosis or hypnotherapy has been effectively used for centuries. This includes prehistoric application that developed into a formalized treatment in the 1800s. Presently there are several forms of hypnotherapy used by tens of thousands of counselors. Many of these approaches have research confirming their effectiveness in treating a variety of psychological concerns as well as habits and addictions.

How does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy is designed to facilitate relaxation, introduce mental resources, and assist in resolving inner conflict. It is unique in that it applies its effect to the subconscious mind. The subconscious is responsible for storing long-term memory and is the source of emotions, habits, relationship patterns, and intuition. Hypnotherapy relaxes the critical mind while introducing positive changes to the subconscious mind. As a result, negative or unhealthy thoughts and behaviors are replaced with positive and healthy beliefs and decisions.

Will hypnotherapy work for me?

Any willing person can benefit from hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind with persons entering trance states multiple times a day. This includes “highway hypnosis”, daydreaming, taking into a beautiful sunset, and other day-to-day experiences. Some seem to respond to hypnotherapy more quickly than others. However, enhanced response occurs through a desire to be hypnotized, openness to instruction, and repeated practice. In some cases, positive change can be quite rapid and have lasting effects.
